Perspective shapes your reality

Writer's picture: SkySky

Perspective is everything. Honestly, the longer I live the more I see it. It shapes your attitude and decides before you can: what to do, how to deal, how to feel. It dictates how you see the world, the people, and events. Analyze your perspective and you might be surprised.

Consider aging. There is nothing positive about it. Your skin wrinkles, age spots appear, elasticity disappears and everything travels south. Your hair falls out or becomes grey and flat. Your metabolism procrastinates and energy is harder to come by than it was ten years ago. Your mind too, becomes slower and facts are getting more difficult to recall. Joints are getting stiff and anyone could easily outrun you even though you were a track star in high school. Aging is horrible. Your mind slows, your beauty goes, your vitality slowly disappear.

or…

“Aging is a privilege many are denied.”

All of a sudden it is no longer horrible but a privilege. How can one sentence turn everything around, from horrible to amazing? The answers is simple: perspective. Wrinkles and age spots, even a slower mind mean nothing when you consider all children who will never grow up, never get old. All the teenagers who went for a drive and never came back. They will never go to college, never get married, never have kids of their own, and they’ll never live to their golden years. All the people who were taken too soon by accidents or disease are denied grey hairs, wrinkles and joint pain. They are denied countless memories, opportunities, and a chance to experience and influence the world.

Feeling negative about the common signs of aging in not bad, but realizing that it’s just a small part of a much bigger picture is priceless. How many situations a day do we come across that anger us because we are looking at it through a key hole? But if we just expand our perceptive we might be surprised at feelings that rush in. Realizing how privileged you really are makes happiness easy and attainable.

I invite you all to consider your perspective and to find something positive in every negative. Sometimes is easy, other times only time can help you see it. There is no such bad thing that wouldn’t turn out to be good in the end. If you just choose to see it.
